The district administration launched immediate efforts to provide help and shelter to the victims of the fire at Tarakarama Nagar on the river bund in Krishna Lanka area on Tuesday. Temporary rehabilitation shelters were being provided to the families, which lost their huts and belongings in the incident.
District Collector S.A.M. Rizvi and Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal visited the accident site and enquired about the cause of the fire from the victims. They ordered the officials to conduct the enumeration of the houses gutted in the fire so that compensation could be given to the victims.
Temporary shelters were being provided at the community hall located in Ranigari Thota and also at the local cement godown. The officials said that food packets and drinking water were being provided to the victims and also electricity supply would be ensured at these shelters.
The victims' families told the visiting officials and dignitaries of the loss of valuable utensils and belongings besides losing some important documents like ration cards and so on. In the preliminary report of the revenue officials, it was said that nearly 150 huts were gutted in the fire.
Local MLA Yelamanchili Ravi visited the accident spot immediately on receiving information and promised to provide all kinds of support to the families. He asked the officials to provide immediate compensation to the victims.
Among the other people's representatives and political parties leaders, who visited the spot, were former MP Gadde Rammohan and former MLA Devineni Nehru. They demanded that the administration provide all basic amenities at the temporary shelters provided to the families.
The leaders described the fire as a serious one, as the huts were reduced to ashes without any trace of the victims' belongings being available. Municipal Commissioner G. Ravibabu, revenue divisional officer S. Venkatrao, MROs, and Civil Supplies department officials visited the site.
