Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam will organise ‘punya nadi haratulu’ at Durga ghat here on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Paripoornananda Swamy and Sri Mata Siva Chaitanaya would deliver discourses on significance of nadi haratulu from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The haratulu would follow it. The temple would distribute books on goddess Kanaka Durga and prasadam to the devotees.
Temple executive officer K. Prabhakar Srinivas, on Saturday, said that they have also made arrangements for cultural and spiritual programmes at Kanaka Durga Nagar Kala Vedika from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is second time in a row that the temple is conducting the ‘punya nadi haratulu’ in the city. The haratulu would be given to the river Krishna from five locations at a time at the ghat. The priests would offer five types of haratis, including, omkaram harati, kumbha harati, nakshatra harati and naga harati and pancha hrati. A final harati with camphor would be offered at the end.
Explaining the significance of the nadi haratulu, the vedic scholar Shanmukha Sastry said that ‘jala’ (water) was one of the pancha bhootas (five elements). The water was important constituent of a human body. Rivers, which were not manmade, provide the water required for a human being. As a respect and obeisance to the rivers, the nadi haratulu were being offered, he said.
Meanwhile, the city police imposed restrictions on movement of vehicles in view of punya nadi haratulu. The vehicles coming from Eluru and bound to Hyderabad would be diverted from Hanuman Junction, and the heavy vehicles would go via Nuzvid, Vissannapeta, Mylavaram, and Ibrahimpatnam. Likewise, the traffic coming from Hyderabad to Vijayawada would be diverted from Ibrahimpatnam and would pass through Mylavaram, Chandarala, Nuzvid, Hanuman Junction. Chennai, Machilipatnam, Guntur and Eluru buses (RTC and private) and other vehicles going towards Hyderabad would have to take Bandar lakulu, Police Control Room, Low Bridge, Kaleswara Rao Market, Chitti Nagar, Tunnel, Sitara, Kummaripalem and Gollapudi. Likewise, the vehicles coming from Hyderabad would be diverted at Gollapudi bypass, Sitara, Kabela, Milk Project, Chittinagar, Errakatta, BRTS Road, Ramavarappadu ring and national highway.
