Minister for IT and Panchayat Raj Nara Lokesh has said that the Ajith Singh Nagar dump yard will be transformed in a year.

Mr. Lokesh laid the foundation stone for the works of bio-mining and reclamation of the dump yard at the dump yard site on Thursday.

He said that there was about 2 lakh tonnes of garbage dumped in the site and it stands testimony to the poor civic administration of the previous governments.

He said that Vijayawada has witnessed several development works in the past three years. “The roads here are way better than those in metro cities such as Hyderabad and Bengaluru,” he said.

The State government has allotted ₹4,600 crore fund for drinking water facility in all the urban local bodies of the State, he said. He said that several IT companies are setting up offices in the city and job opportunities will be created for the locals. HCL alone is going to provide 13,000 jobs in the region, he claimed.

Mr. Lokesh also addressed a public meeting at the municipal stadium in Ajith Singh Nagar. The bio-mining project costs ₹14 crore. As per the plans of the civic body, the dump yard would be reclaimed and converted into a park. District Collector B. Lakshmikantham, Municipal Commissioner J. Nivas, MP K. Srinivas, Mayor K. Sridhar and others were present.
