The Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers staged a protest in front of Tehsildar office opposing the State Government proposal to develop a park on PWD Grounds. The CPI (M) leaders submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Tehsildar on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, party state secretariat member Ch. Babu Rao urged the State Government to withdraw its plans to shift the Rythu Bazaar. The Government decision was aimed at encroaching upon the open space and hand it over to party leaders.
The CPI (M) would build a massive movement along with other political parties, he said. Mr. Babu Rao said that the Government should find out some other place to develop a park if it was really interested in public.
Shifting the rythu bazaar and converting the open space into park would not benefit the public any way. The people would be deprived of only lung space available in the city. The PWD Grounds is catering to the needs of Vijayawada Book Festival, car driving, and industrial exhibition etc. purposes, he pointed out.
The Government was also wasting public money unmindfully. The Government decided to stop the construction of sub station and shift it to Ryve's Canal side near Gandhi Nagar, which he said was a waste of money (Rs.2.5 crore). Under the garb of Chief Minister's security, the Government was taking illogical and unmindful decisions, he said. Party city secretariat members Madala Venkateswara Rao, city leaders were present.
