Drive to make city poster-free

April 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has got criminal cases booked against 15 commercial establishments / companies on Saturday for putting up posters without permission, as part of its drive to make the city a poster-free zone.

According to an official release, VMC has warned against pasting posters, but to no avail, as commercial establishments and traders violated the rule blatantly.

In addition to getting the persons responsible for it arrested and fine imposed, drinking water and power supplies were stopped to their residences to serve as a deterrent.

Task force set up

Municipal Commissioner G. Veerapandian stated that a task force headed by a building inspector was set up to visit the city between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. and get criminal cases booked against the violators.

He said businesses, coaching centres and religious events could not be advertised through posters and if the norms are flouted, stringent action would be taken.
