Mr. Rizvi convened a meeting with bankers and heads of various departments here on Saturday to discuss the crop loans and loans to be sanctioned under various welfare schemes. He said that the bankers sanctioned loans to the tune of Rs.892 crore for kharif crop this year. The controlling officials should emphasise on issuing remaining loans to achieve the set targets. Identity cards were issued to as many as 60,000 tenant farmers in the district. The bankers gave loans valued at Rs.12.50 crore to the tenant farmers, he said, adding, the bankers should sanction loans to all remaining eligible tenant farmers.

Referring to last year's loans, Mr. Rizvi said that Rs.41.26 crore of loans were issued to Joint Liability Groups (JLAs). About 2,800 farmers had repaid loans to the tune of Rs.28 crore. The agriculture officers should take steps to recover the loans.

With a view to developing dairy industry, milch animals were distributed to the farmers in rural areas under Pasukranthi pathakam. Loans with a subsidy of 30 per cent were issued to 2,100 farmers with Nabard assistance. However, none of them have repaid the loans.

Notwithstanding, animal husbandry department officials have forwarded the applications for new loans, he said, Expressing dissatisfaction over the functioning of the department, he asked the officials to recover the loans.

None of the banks could meet even 20 per cent of the targets in issuing loans under Urban IKP scheme. The bankers also failed to provide loans to the self help groups in rural areas.
