Diabetes screening, awareness camp today

A free diabetes screening and awareness camp will be organised by the Pinnamaneni-Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences on the occasion of the World Diabetes Day at the Siddhartha Auditorium on Saturday.

Director General of the institute Chadalawada Nageswara Rao said that registration would begin for free screening from 9 a.m.

The screening programme would be followed by an awareness camp in which the diet restrictions and complications of diabetes which caused a lot of damage “silently” would be explained. Income Tax Commissioner Ajay Kumar will inaugurate the programme.

Blood sugar, blood pressure and when necessary echo cardio graph (ECG) would be performed free of cost as part of the screening programme, he said.

Andhra Group of Hospitals in partnership with popular Tamil and Telugu film actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Pratyusha Support will administer three different types of vaccines to children free of cost on the occasion of the Children’s Day. The hospital children’s services head P.V. Rama Rao said that Rotavirus, Hepatitis B and Flu vaccines would be given to children from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m at the hospital near I V Palace.

Parents can register for the inoculations by calling 9494264206 or 0866-2576757. Children below six months would be given Rotavirus vaccine, children above two years the flu vaccines which also protects them against Swine Flu and children up to 18 years would be given the Hepatitis B vaccine.

The Rotavirus and Hepatitis B vaccines had to be given in three doses.

It would cost Rs 2,000 for all three vaccinations, but they would be given free, Dr Rama Rao said.
