Director General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy inaugurated the police sub-control room at Benz Circle in the city on Friday.
The new sub-control room would be manned by a sub-inspector and a few constables. The sub-control staff will help the traffic police and respond to the incidents in the vicinity round-the-clock.
Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said instructions were given to the police officers to concentrate more on prevention of crime against women. The government is also proposing to give more teeth to Central Crime Stations and Women Police Stations in the State.
Steps were being taken to improve quality and visible policing and provide better services to the public, said the State police chief.
Earlier, Mr. Dinesh Reddy reviewed the law and order situation in West Godavari and Krishna districts and also in Vijayawada Police Commissionerate limits.
Police Commissioner N. Madhusudhan Reddy, West Godavari district Superintendent of Police Ravi Varma, Krishna district Superintendent of Police P.V.S. Ramakrishna, and Vijayawada DCP M. Ravindranath Babu attended the review meeting.
Later, the DGP had darshan of goddess Kanakadurga at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devastanam on Indrakeeladri and offered special pujas.
Additional DCP (Crime) Mahendra Patrudu, and Additional DCP (Traffic) A.V. Ramana were among those who accompanied the DGP.
