Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathy has said de-weeding works will be taken up in the Krishna eastern delta region at a cost of Rs. 4 crore.

The Minister and district Collector S.A.M. Rizvi inspected the ongoing de-weeding works in Machilipatnam, Pedana, Gudivada, and Kaikaluru constituencies in the district on Tuesday.

On the occasion, he said the de-weeding works would be taken up throughout the year so as to ensure the farmers did not face inundation problem in the event of heavy rain and cyclones. The de-weeding works would be completed in 30 days.

Tenders were invited to take up basin-wise works. The agencies were awarded maintenance works in eight drainage basins, including Pedalanka, Upputeru, Polaraju, Budameru, Neharalli, LS drain, Chandraiah, Sivaganga, Tallapalem, Lajjabanda, Ratnakodu, Lingannakodu, and Mangaleru, he said and asked officials to deploy sufficient workers and at least two machines to complete de-weeding at the earliest.

Machilipatnam MLA Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) pointed that Sivaganga drain frequently overflowed, inundating adjacent fields. The farmers urged the Minister to supply fertilizer through societies. They also pointed that bankers were not sanctioning loans unless the land owners signed it.

Responding to it, the Minister said land owner's signature was not necessary for the bank loans taken by tenant farmers.
