The delay in probe into MJM College case, in which the police arrested four persons a few days ago, was raising many doubts.
Even after the police recorded the statements of some girls over the alleged illegal activities in the college, the district administration has not intervened into the issue till date.
Interestingly, the women's organisations and the student unions, who agitate for every small issue, are silent over the alleged abuse of some students in the college. The MJM Vocational Junior College was being run at Athkur village in Ungutur mandal in Krishna district and about 150 students including 135 girls were studying in the institution. The management was running three hostels at Athkur and Pottipadu villages in the district. The management admitted orphans, semi-orphans and poor girls and boys from Krishna, Guntur and other districts. A few inmates of orphanage homes and NGOs were also studying in the College.
The police who interacted with some students in Penamaluru, Athkur, Pottipadu and other villages registered cases and arrested three college staff and correspondent Teressa on charges of kidnapping, wrongful confinement, extortion and trafficking.
The role of some orphanage homes and some other persons were also suspected in the racket as three girls of a home and also students of the college went missing a few days ago. Rumours were making rounds that some college staff, political leaders and NGOs were also involved in the alleged illegal activities in the MJM College case.
Police are trying to collect the details of the people involved in the racket from the incoming and outgoing calls of the SIM cards of the arrested persons.
Speaking to The Hindu , City Police Commissioner N. Madhusudhan Reddy said that the police seized some records to prevent tampering and the investigation is going on in the MJM College case.
Meanwhile, AP Balala Hakkula Sangham (APBHS) State president Achyuta Rao blamed the Government over the inaction of the officials over the incident.
The issue highlighted the poor vigil of the Government on private hostels in the State, he alleged. The Sangam demanded the Principal Secretary Women Development and Child Welfare and the Director General of Police to intervene into the matter immediately, book the culprits and do justice to the victims.
