Foundations for the colony were laid way back in 1979
Unity is strength, when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved. Residents of K. P. Nagar have succeeded in making their colony the best place to live thanks to mutual cooperation. Despite being close to ring road, the colony is calm and serene, with 24X7 vigil, which is sure to envy the visitors.
Four decades of toil and sweat is there behind this success of K.P. Nagar, a colony locked between Maris Stella College and Nirmala High School. The foundations for the colony were laid way back in 1979. The welfare society was registered in 1981 to achieve the goal of making the colony liveable. Getting transferred from village panchayat (Patamata panchayat then) to Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), the residents have seen many ups and downs, with a strong guiding force like Paruchuri Kutumba Rao (Chinni), who is no more.
“I still remember there were many low-lying areas. There were no proper roads. Chinni garu used to guide us in taking up the matter with officials concerned,” recalls S. Veerabhadra Rao, president of Colony Welfare Association. To the best of our knowledge, ours’ is first colony on this ring road. Now, many colonies boast of security cover. Our colony had security ever since foundations were laid. A watchman keeps guard during daytime and two in the night. It has been the practice for ages,” he says.
Acquiescing with him, P. Ramakrishna Rao, Association member says, “What we are today is Chinni garu untiring efforts. It united us. Now the colony is like an extended family.” The colony has calendar events. Chinni garu had a vision. So, he fixed Gandhi Jayanthi, October 2, for election of new body, for the single reason that everyone would be available as it is a public holiday. Secondly, every person gathers on Sriramanavami celebrations here. A community dinning is attraction, he says.
The association has put up mikes at junctions with a view to play devotional songs and music at dawn. The colony’s park, they say, is best maintained park in the city.
