April 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Chief Secretary S.P. Tucker instructed various departmental heads to ensure that the infrastructure being created in the Capital region for Krishna Pushkaram lasted long. He said the Municipal Administration, Tourism, Road & Buildings and Police Departments should play a crucial role for the successful conduct of the Pushkaram and hoped that they would give their best.

At a high-level review meeting in Hyderabad on Saturday, Mr. Tucker said top priority should be given to the security of the huge number of people who would be taking part in the festival. Queue lines had to be properly regulated to prevent any untoward incident. Vehicular traffic should be streamlined by deploying a smart intelligence system, he suggested.

Due focus should be laid on preventing stampedes at Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada, he said, and proposed a model temple at the entry point of Indrakeeladri to ease congestion on the hill. Mr. Tucker wanted the officers concerned to study the crowd management in place for the ‘Simhastha Kumbh Mela’ going on at Ujjain.

Expert advice had to be taken in this regard he said and wanted all the arrangements to be in place by May 15.

Principal Secretaries J.S.V. Prasad (Endowments), Sam Bob (R&B), Neerabh Kumar Prasad (Tourism) and Manmohan Singh (Fisheries and Animal Husbandry) and Additional Directors General of Police R.P. Thakur and N.V. Surendra Babu were present.
