The Communist Party of India (CPI) is gearing up to divide its State committee into two even before the general elections.
The CPI has chalked out plans to constitute the two committees immediately after its national conclave on March 8 and 9, according to CPI State secretary K. Narayana.
Speaking to The Hindu here on Tuesday, Mr. Narayana said that they expected the general elections to take place separately in two States, but chances seem to be bleak with imposition of President Rule.
The party thought of constituting two separate committees after formation of the two states.
As the Telangana and Seemandhra were practically two states now, the party would have to constitute two committees.
“Due process would be followed in carving out of the two committees,” he said and added that it should not take more than a month.
Local body pollsOn local body elections, the CPI leader said that the party city unit wrote a letter to the CPI(M) expressing interest to forge an alliance for local body elections.
They haven’t responded yet, he said.
The experiences say that the Left emerged victorious when both CPI and CPI(M) contested together.
The local unit would take a decision on alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for local body elections.
At the State level, the CPI sees no problem to sail with the TDP in the event the latter does not join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said.
