The Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a dharna in front of SPDCL office here on Bandar Road opposing power-cut in Vijayawada. The activists, on Monday, staged a novel protest by carrying lanterns on their heads and raised slogans.
CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar, addressing the gathering, said that the government was imposing the power-cut even before the advent of summer.
The people were facing untold misery while the industries were facing a crisis.
The government has levied a burden of Rs. 12,250 crore towards power charges and surcharges.
And it was gearing up to levy another dose of Rs. 9,600 crore.
The government that could not provide quality power to the people has no right to impose additional burden, he said.
CPI city secretariat member Palla Surya Rao, and AIYF city general secretary Kokkera Suresh were present.
