The State government would set up a special Corporation for the development of the Most Backward Classes shortly.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced this at the 190th birth anniversary of Jyotirao Phule in Vijayawada on Monday. He, however, did not give details.

Mr. Naidu said eradication of poverty and working with a motto ‘one for all and all for one’ was the real tribute to Phule. The government allotted Rs. 8700 crore in the budget as sub plan for the Backward Classes. The government was strengthening the Corporations and Federations of Backward Classes, and imparting training in skill development for them.

The Chief Minister said the government was distributing tools to artisans and people dependent on hereditary skills. Latest equipment was being given to them so that they could compete and develop on par with their peers in society. The government was committed for the development of the Backward Classes (BCs). It was pertinent to recall that TDP founder president N T Rama Rao gave utmost priority to the BCs, he said. Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled a statue of Jyotirao Phule near Tummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram here on Monday commemorating the birth anniversary. Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, BC Welfare Minister Kollu Ravindra, Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, MLC Buddha Venkanna, Vijayawada (Central) MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, ZP Chairperson Gadde Anuradha, Mayor Koneru Sridhar and others were present.
