The Congress has cautioned the Vijayawada police against permitting the Telugu Desam to hold ‘Nava nirmana deeksha’ programme at Benz Circle on Friday.
PCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy in a statement said that the Congress would conduct all its party programmes ‘right in the middle of the road’ in future if the police grant permission to the ruling Telugu Desam to block all the traffic towards one of the busiest centres in the city.
The police were not granting permission to the Congress activists to conduct any agitational programme even at the places where it was not inconvenient to anyone. But permission was being granted to the TDP disregarding the directive given by none other than the Supreme Court, Mr Raghuveera Reddy pointed out. The Supreme Court clearly directed that permission should not be granted to programmes at the places that led to public inconvenience, he said.
The purpose of the ‘Nava nirmana deeksha’ was to showcase the achievements the government made in the year and also review the targets it had set for itself. Ironically the government had no achievements to showcase, but only failures, he ridiculed.
