While the government is raring to organise ‘Nava Nirmana Deeksha’ for the second consecutive time in a row on June 2 as part of the State Formation Day celebrations, the Congress is gearing up to rejuvenate itself and regain its hold at the grassroots.

As a step in that direction, AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be addressing a training and orientation camp for members of committees to be elected, in Visakhapatnam in the last week of June. Mr. Gandhi will also be addressing the tribal leaders there.

Before that, the party has decided to expedite the process of reorganisation of the committees from the mandal to the State levels.

The party will also be focussing on issues such as membership and effective use of the social media to reach out to the cadre.

With the aim of gaining a foothold in the tribal areas, the Congress will take up the cause of tribal people in the Agency areas. The move assumes significance as the government is vigorously pursuing bauxite mining in the Visakhapatnam Agency area much against the wishes of the tribal people.

To demonstrate that the party has the “will and energy” to bounce back, it plans to chalk out an action plan for the next six months and “expose” the failures of the TDP and its allay the BJP in fulfilling the promises made to people in their respective election manifestoes.

This apart, the Congress will be organising the Indira Gandhi centenary celebrations. It has also decided to continue the birth centenary celebrations of B.R. Ambedkar for another year.

The Congress coordination committee is scheduled to meet here on Monday to chalk out plans to give an impetus to the organisation at the grassroots level.

Former MLC Giduguru Rudraraju on Sunday said that the discussions would mainly focus on strengthening the organisation and constitution of committees at the mandal, district, and State levels. The action plan would be sent to the State Executive, he said.
