Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Naraharisetti Narasimha Rao launched a hunger strike in support of the strike being observed by Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham in the city on Sunday. Mr. Raos’ wife N. Madhavi garlanded him with a cotton yarn garland.
He paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Kapu leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Ro before kick-starting his hunger strike.
On the occasion, he said that the Telugu Desam Government should keep its electoral promise and release Rs.1,900 crore to the Kapu Corporation.
The government should also make an announcement that the Kapus were being included in the list of BCs, he said. Mr. Rao demanded that the government lift Section 144 in all 13 districts.
The government should also allow the Kapu community members to visit Mr. Padmanabham, he added.
