PACS results show that farmers are with the party: Minister

The Congress is heading to win 18 to 20 District Cooperative Central Banks (DCCBs), district in-charge Minister Thota Narasimham has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the Minister said the results of elections to the PACS clearly show that farmers, despite the false propaganda of the opposition parties, had confidence in the Congress.

“TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu is in Krishna district, but the party’s performance here is appalling,” he said. Asked about the TDP’s allegation that the Congress rigged elections to the cooperative societies, the Minister retorted saying that only the TDP was capable of such actions and recalled why power was shut down during elections to local bodies when TDP was ruling.

Mr. Narasimham said the Congress had fulfilled every promise it made in the election manifesto. Several welfare measures had also been taken up for farmers.

Minister for Secondary Education K. Parthasarathi said the party had done exceedingly well in the first phase of the cooperative elections held in Vijayawada and Machilipatnam revenue divisions.

Contrary to the estimates of the media on PACS polls, which put the tally of both the Congress and the TDP at 69, the Minister said the Congress won 104, TDP 55, YSRCP 26, CPI 3, CPI(M) 1, and independents 4.

MLAs’ suspension

Mr. Narasimham said news about reported suspension of nine MLAs by the APCC president was not official and there was no danger of any sort to the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.

Asked to comment on the statement of Pedana MLA Jogi Ramesh against APCC president in connection with the reported suspension of MLAs, Mr. Narasimham said it was wrong for the MLA to talk like that, and a collective decision would be taken and officially announced.

Vijayawada East MLA Y. Ravi, DCC president N. Narasimha Rao, city Congress president A. Nagendra, working president M. Rajeswara Rao, and APCC secretary Akula Srinivasa Kumar were present.
