Congress is the only party in the State that showed the resolve for the resolution of various problems and difficulties being faced by the people. As part of this agenda the Congress scrapped the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on textiles, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana has said.
Mr. Satyanarayana was felicitated by the textile traders here on Sunday. Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Federation of Textile Associations from all over the State attended the programme conducted by the Krishnaveni Wholesale Cloth Merchants Association and expressed their satisfaction at the abolition of VAT.
The PCC Chief said that the three regional parties that had a presence in the State were only bothered about bettering the electoral prospects of leaders who either belonged to a family or people loyal to them. The Congress was the only party that was concerned about the welfare of all sections and the sectors on which people were dependent for their livelihood.
The cloth merchants’ association president Bachu Venkata Narasimha Rao thanked the Cabinet ministers who took interest in their appeal to scrap VAT and convincing Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on the issue. Another association office-bearer Vellampalli Rama Mohan Rao, thanked the Government for understanding the difficulties of the textile merchants and retailers.
Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal said the Chief Minister was a leader who did not make hasty decisions. He takes his time in making a decision and rarely goes back on it. But in case of the VAT on textiles he rolled back on the tax, the MP said.
Ministers Kanna Lakshminarayana and Kolusu Parthasarathy, MLAs Vellampalli Srinivas, Malladi Vishnu and MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah spoke. Earlier Mr Satyanaryana, visited the Murupilli Chitti Congress office and paid tributes to the portrait of the Congress leader, after whom the old Congress office is named. At the Chitti Congress office the PCC president welcomed into the party Badita Sankar, a Congress leader, who went into the YSR Congress and returned. Mr. Satyanarayana offered prayers at the newly constructed Nagarala Seetharama Swami and Mahalakshmi Devi temple in Chittinagar Centre. He also laid foundation stone for the development of the road from Chittinagar Centre to Milk Factory with Rs. 92.70 lakh JNNURM funds and inaugurated a Social Welfare Hostel for Boys constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 58.65 lakh at Lambadipet.
