Volunteers of the Youth for Seva and the Abhaya Care Foundation jointly distributed clay Ganesha idols to passers-by on the Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road here on Wednesday, urging people to celebrate the Ganapathi festival in an eco-friendly way.
It is a three-day idol-distribution drive kicked off by the volunteers, who will continue to create awareness by distributing free of cost about 2,000 idols in the next two days. The clay idols are sponsored by V. Ranga Prasad of GEV Projects.
People passing through this route were in for a pleasant surprise when young volunteers stopped them and handed tiny clay Ganesha idols.
Students of the Surya Vidyaniketan also joined the volunteers in the distribution drive.
Youth for Seva’s city coordinator Ashraf Shaik and Vallabhaneni Kumar of the Abhaya Care Foundation said the idea was to motivate people to shun plaster of Paris that had been polluting water bodies for several years.
