There was something to cheer about on the final day of the 11Sports national table tennis championship as Vijayawada’s Kajol Sunar, a student of Maddi Subba Rao English Medium, won a bronze medal in the senior girls segment.
Fleet-footed Kajol battled her way to the semifinals in the senior girls’ singles category before capitulating to Radhapriya Goel of the Delhi Public School from Uttar Pradesh. She lost 1-3 (5-11, 7-11, 11-6, 7-11).
“This performance at the national level will help her morale and boost her confidence,” felt Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Associaion secretary S.M. Sultan.
Overall, West Bengal and Karnataka once again emerged as the most dominant forces in Indian table tennis, winning one gold, one silver and two bronze medals each.
Tamil Nadu also won a gold and a bronze to end their campaign on a high note while Rajasthan pulled of a sensational victory to clinch the last gold medal on offer. Chinmaya Somaiya of Mayur School (Rajasthan), Poymantee Baisya of Makhla Debiswari Vidya Niketan (West Bengal), Sujan Bharadwaj, Sri Kumaram Children’s Home (Karnataka) and Hrithika of P.S. Senior Secondary School (Tamil Nadu) won the individual titles.
