The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has launched an investigation into the alleged torture of its constable by the Krishna district police.

Visakhapatnam-based CISF Deputy Commandant Pankaj on Wednesday told The Hindu that he had been deputed to register the statement of Dasari Nagaprasad Babu, who was arrested by the Krishna police on June 13.

“I have registered the statement of Mr. Babu in the District Government Hospital. We are working on shifting him to a Vijayawada-based hospital for better treatment,” said Mr. Pankaj.

“I have already informed Krishna District Superintendent of Police (Sarvasresth Tripathy) about our inquiry into the case. An official discussion has been scheduled for Thursday in Machilipatnam”, he said. The CISF has also sought the statement of the doctors who have been treating the constable, whose condition was said to be stable by Wednesday.

According to Mr. Tripathy, Mr. Babu was arrested on June 13 on charges of alleged nuisance during the Masula Beach Festival on June 11.
