Caste census put off

October 19, 2011 11:47 am | Updated 11:47 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The socio-economic and caste census, which was supposed to begin on Tuesday, did not take off due to some technical lapse in obtaining certain data from Hyderabad.

Additional Commissioner (general) and Principal SECC 2011 Officer P. Venkata Ramana said the caste census could not be commenced as the census staff here did not receive the requisite data. The abridged household data was not received as per the schedule.

The fresh schedule of the census would be announced shortly, he added.

50 hired

With postponement of the first phase of caste census, the entire schedule of four phases stretching from October 18 to November 30 has got disturbed.

Meanwhile, the VMC has hired about 50 persons as data entry operators for the census work.

They would be paid Rs.12,000 for the entire period of 40 days from whenever the work beings.

Training classes for enumerators, supervisors, and data entry operators working under Charge-1, 2, 3, and 4 were, however, continued at the Montessori Mahila Kalasala and AKTP School.
