The activists supporting united Andhra Pradesh took out two separate candlelight processions in the city on Friday. While a candlelight procession was taken out on Bandar Road by AP NGOs Association members, another procession was taken out by Telugu Desam Party activists from One Town to Potti Sriramulu statue near Prakasam Barrage.
The AP NGOs association carried placards with captions – ‘Telugu talli pardon us’ attracting attention of the passersby. They raised slogans ‘KCR down down’. As there was no police permission for the rally, the association members limited their procession from Sub Collector’s office to Victoria Museum.
Pride ‘mortgaged’
Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, TDP Vijayawada (West) in-charge Buddha Venkanna and others took in One Town candlelight procession.
Earlier, at a press conference they said coastal Andhra Ministers mortgaged Telugu pride to Delhi. The Ministers fear that their corrupt practices would come out into public if they resigned from their posts, TDP district president argued.
Instead of tendering their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh they submitted to AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh.
Their resignation letters were sheer drama and if Central Ministers from coastal Andhra were sincere, they should submit their resignations to the Prime Minister, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said.
Leaders silent
Congress MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, who made a hue and cry over Samaikyandhra, kept quiet after he was given a Union cabinet berth. The PRP bagged 16 seats in coastal Andhra as against a total of 18. Its founder K. Chiranjeevi was silent on coastal Andhra self-respect, he alleged.
AICC president Sonia Gandhi was poised to divide State with the sole intention of making Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister. TDP State secretary Gottipati Ramakrishna Prasad was present.
