NSS volunteers of Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College and members of the Serve the Needy, a non-governmental organisation, organised a rally in connection with the National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on Friday.
The students, carrying placards, took out the rally at Kanuru village from their college. They urged the government to initiate measures to prevent trafficking in girls and children.
College principal G. Sambasiva Rao flagged off the rally. NSS coordinator K. Narendra, Save the Needy representative Bhanu Prakash Reddy, and NSS volunteers participated. Speaking on the occasion, the volunteers explained how poor children and girls were being trafficked on the pretext of providing jobs.
Mr. Narendra appealed to the students to come to the rescue of the victims and alert the police, if any person was involved in luring children. Students of various branches of the Siddhartha group participated in the rally.
