Vijayawada West MLA Sk. Jaleel Khan here on Friday said that the burial ground and masjid in Tarapet will not be disturbed for any renovation works as alleged by some vested interests.

In a press conference here, Mr. Khan condemned the social media campaign by six persons of the same community who were sharing messages of the Kabristan (graveyard) property being removed for the sake of development works. They have also launched a campaign near the masjid, he added.

“A group of six persons were trying to scare the Muslim community by falsely informing them that the masjid and burial ground will be demolished and the community should come together to save it. The same group has been looting the community members by exorbitantly charging for submission of death report to VMC and burying the deceased,” he added.

“For the past three weeks, they are trying to create tensions ,” he said.

When contacted city planner B. Srinivasulu said that he could not make a comment on the issue as the matter is pending with court.
