Is it fair to count the chickens before they are hatched?
Well! When it comes to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), it is fair beyond doubt to count the chickens and it was evident from the invitation that was sent to all media houses on the grand celebrations of the party’s victory, which it perceives as a certainty on Friday.
The invitation baffled many pen-pushers as the counting for the mother of all elections - the general elections for both Assembly and Parliament - will be held across the country and State only on Friday.
“How can they call for a victory celebrations even before the counting has begun? Though the exit polls have predicted a landslide victory for the BJP , the invite a day before the D-Day on the celebration, drives home the over confidence of the party leaders, especially at the district level,” reacts a senior journalist.
The invitation in the name of party’s city general secretary K.S. Arumugam stated the victory celebrations will be held at the party office at Suryaraopet sharp at 12 noon and later it was revised to 4 p.m.
Thanks to the Modi wave, BJP’s city unit, after decades-long struggle, was able to win a seat – the first one - in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation in the recently-concluded civic polls.
Uttam Chand, a north Indian businessman, who has made the city his second home, defeated his Telugu Desam Party opponent Srinivasa Rao with a margin of 186 votes from the 39 ward.
