BJP, which claimed to have gained strength in demarcated Andhra Pradesh, is asking four Assembly seats in Guntur district, if the party goes ahead for tie-up with the Telugu Desam party in the ensuing general elections.
BJP leaders are demanding Guntur (West), Sattenapalli, Mangalagiri and Prathipadu Assembly segments in the district. Party Seemandhra Udyama Committee chairman Yadlapati Ragunatha Babu, BJP Seemandhra official spokesman Jupudi Rangaraju, Guntur Urban district president Aluru Koteswara Rao and others are in the race.
Besides, IT professional of Hyderabad Chundu Prasanth, M. Amar Babu and BJP Seemandhra State general secretary Jammula Syam Kishore are expecting tickets.
“We have good cadre in Sattenapalli, Guntur (West), Prathipadu and Mangalagiri segments in the district. We request the party to allot four tickets, which helps to strengthen the BJP further in the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh,” said Mr. Koteswara Rao.
He said that the TDP was trying to allot weak seats to the BJP after observing the position in municipal polls. “If the TDP makes any attempt to suppress the national party in the State, we will oppose the alliance and go alone in the polls,” said the BJP urban district president.
“The support of Jana Sena, launched by actor Pavan Kalyan, and the joining of some persons, including some retired civil servants, strengthened the BJP in Seemandhra State. The party will bag a good number of seats even if the party candidates contest alone in the elections,” said Mr. Koteswara Rao.
