The Congress party’s election campaign committee chairman K. Chiranjeevi on Sunday asserted that the TDP and the YSRC were to be blamed for bifurcation and not the Congress alone, as they gave their consent in the all-party meetings, within their own forums and in Parliament and Assembly.
Sonia Gandhi expected former Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to explain the party’s stand on bifurcation and allay apprehensions about it, but he did not do so, apparently in his own interest.
'Bifurcation is painful'“Bifurcation is indeed painful, but the Congress was the last party which agreed that the people of Telangana deserved to be given a separate State after the Opposition parties expressed similar opinion,” Mr. Chiranjeevi said.
Addressing the municipal election campaign meeting here, he claimed that bifurcation was beneficial to Seemandhra, and that the Congress had the vision and capability for transforming each of the district headquarters into a “Bhagyanagar” by fully realising the potential of the natural resources available.
