Bankers stage novel protest at offices of defaulters

In a novel protest, bankers staged a silent demonstration before offices of the defaulters urging them to repay the dues in the city and at Jaggaiahpeta on Thursday Andhra Bank employees took out a procession from their branch in Srinagar Colony here to the “defaulters’ offices” drawing attention of passersby.

Initially, people thought the bankers were staging a dharna to draw attention of government on their demands.

About 25 bank employees gathered in front of offices of Venus Aqua Foods Limited and Himaja Fertilisers in the city as part of protest.

Another demonstration was organised at Jaggaiahpeta near Somnath Industries. While Venus Aqua would have to repay dues to the tune of Rs. 53 crore, Himaja Fertilisers would have to clear dues of Rs. 6.9 crore. Somnath Industries has dues to the tune of Rs. 6 crore. Their loans turned into Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) in 2014, according to Andhra Bank Deputy General Manager (DGM) GSV Krishna Rao.

The bank would take legal action also to recover the dues.
