A festive look prevailed on the streets of city’s Autonagar on Saturday as it celebrated the 50{+t}{+h}anniversary.

Staying off work and the shops shut, everyone had a field day by taking part in the celebrations organised by the Automobile Technicians Associations in collaboration with several other associations representing various fields of manufacturing in the industrial area. With a large number of automobile manufacturing units that are known for building bodies of heavy vehicles and carrying out repair works, the Jawahar Lal Nehru Auto Nagar Industrial Estate turned as one stop solution for big vehicles and trucks from various districts of the State and the neighbouring States which were brought here for repairs in the 80s.

It now employs over one lakh workers and houses more than 2,000 units belonging to various trades. Eighty per cent of the units are related to automobiles.

However, on the flipside those associated with Autonagar are much concerned over the lack of development as the area struggles to keep pace with the modernisation of the industry.

“Even decades have passed after establishment there is no proper development on the front of facilities and infrastructure. It still looks like an unorganised area. We got roads only in the recent years and we face many challenges even now,” said A. Koteswararao, a trader in Autonagar.
