Bishop of Vijayawada Catholic church Mallavarapu Prakash has been appointed Archbishop of Visakhapatnam by the orders of the Pope Benedict 16 of the Vatican on Tuesday.
On hearing the news, people from all over the State, Bishops from Krishna district and church Fathers came in person to congratulate the new Archbishop.
They praised the Archbishop for his relentless work towards bettering the living conditions of the poor and orphan children. He was also responsible for the construction of many Catholic schools, churches, and hospitals in the district.
Bishop M. Prakash, born in 1949 in Nizamabad district, was first appointed as Catholic preacher in 1979. After working in various places like Hyderabad and Kadapa and getting a master’s degree in theology from Loyola University in Chicago, he was sworn in Bishop in Vijayawada.
During his decade-long service in the city, he was twice appointed C.C.B.I Secretary and even took up the additional responsibilities of Eluru Catholic church administrator. Among the people who congratulated the Archbishop were the former Bhisop of Kurnool Mathew Cherian, Income-Tax Commissioner Vijay Kumar, Monsignor M. Chinappa, Chancellor Father J. John Raj, Procreator Father M. Gabriel, SSC Director Father Muvvala Prasad, other fathers and sisters from various hospitals.
