The Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association at its executive meeting held on Sunday decided to lodge a complaint against Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Rekha Rani with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for not co-operating on issues concerning the conduct of the 2019 National Games.

Association general secretary R.K. Purushotham told media persons though the Indian Olympic Association (IOC) had recognised his association, the bureaucrat was not corresponding with them on issues concerning development of sports.

“For the conduct of National Games, the AP Government should pay Rs.4.5 crore to IOC, after which the latter will give the necessary nod to Andhra Pradesh in its forthcoming annual general meeting. Unfortunately SAAP is not in communication with us,” he complained. Mr. Purushotham said in case A.P. was not meeting the deadline, the IOC would cancel the event. “When Bihar failed to fulfil the formalities, the IOC had cancelled the 2015 National Games,” he pointed out.

He said for the successful conduct of the event, the SAAP and the APOB officials should hold regular meetings on infrastructure, preparing the athletes for the event and coaching schedules. “Nothing is happening from SAAP’s side.”

On the recent developments on rights over the Olympic Bhavan at Hyderabad’s L.B. Stadium, he said the association would take a legal course.

APOA members Badeti Venkataramaiah, A. Ramana Rao, Padmanabham and others took part in the meeting.
