July 18, 2011 10:32 am | Updated 10:32 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The Andhra Joint Action Committee (JAC) members have anointed Potti Sriramulu statue here with milk in protest against Samaikyandhra agitation.

On the occasion, on Saturday, Andhra JAC president S. Krishna Murthy said that the Samaikyandhra protagonists were demeaning Potti Sriramulu who sacrificed his life for formation of Andhra state. He never fought for unification of Hyderabad and Andhra. But, fought for Andhra state along with Madras, he said.

Use of photographs

Use of photographs of Sriramulu by Samaikyavadis was unpardonable.

The JAC members would lay siege to houses of Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal and Mylavaram MLA Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao if they did not desist from unified Andhra movement, he said.

Meanwhile, BJP city leaders D. Umamaheswara Raju and others made light of meeting of Congress elected representatives from coastal Andhra. Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal hardly resolved the problems, and stayed in the city as a visitor. None of them could prevail upon the Centre to accord national status to Polavaram project. The harbours and airports were hardly developed, and there was no new project in the coastal region.

They all had invested in industries in Telangana region. And, now they were championing the cause for their vested interests, they said.
