Andhra Bank to recruit DWCRA women as business staff

: Here is some good news for DWCRA self-help group women in the State. The Andhra Bank has decided to as many as 27,000 of them as its business correspondents in rural areas.

Andhra Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Suresh N Patel and Executive Director (ED) Ajit Kumar Rath met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at his office in this regard on Friday. They presented a cheque for Rs.50 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

“DWCRA women will move in villages, maintain the data of the beneficiaries of various government schemes in their tabs. They will enlighten the villagers on the facilities being extended by AB to the customers,” the officials said.

Disclosing to the newsmen at a press conference later, Mr. Suresh said the bank has business correspondents in many areas. However, the bank has decided to appoint DWCRA women as business correspondents in the villages, each one having more than 5,000 population.

“The new recruits will explain various insurance, housing, vehicle, agriculture, gold and education loans and different schemes being extended by AB. The business correspondents will do bank transactions for the benefit of the villagers,” said Mr. Suresh.

The CEO said about 27,000 women would be appointed soon as business correspondents and the bank will begin the process by appointing DWCRA members in a district as a pilot project.

e-surveillance

Andhra Bank which has 2,803 branches and 3,636 Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) and other services, has registered the business growth by 9.2 per cent when compared to the same period last year, said Mr. Ajit Kumar.

The total deposits grew by 12.4 per cent and the advances have increased by 5.2 per cent.

Gross Non Performing Assets (NPAs) is 8.39 percent (Rs.11,443 crore) which was only 5.31 (i.e. Rs.6,876) by March 31, last year, the ED said.

The bank has linked integrated e-Surveillance system for all ATMs, and centralized integrated security surveillance system was being implemented to prevent crimes at ATMs, the CEO said.

AB Chief General Manager Ajay Gutpa, Deputy General Manager G.S.V. Krishna Rao, Assistant General Managers N.S.N. Reddy, Jeevan Prakash and B. Prasada Rao and other officers participated.
