Hailing the contributions of Dr. B R Ambedkar, Minister for Social Welfare Nakka Ananda Babu said that the State government is constructing Dr. Ambedkar ‘Smuriti Vanam,’ a modern complex comprising a park, a convention centre, a library, a meditation hall and a 125-foot-high statue of the leader spread across 20 acres at Inavolu in the Amaravati capital region.

Addressing a meeting on the 62st death anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar here on Wednesday, Mr. Ananda Babu said State government had paid fitting tributes to the architect of the Constitution by holding a special Assembly session and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had sanctioned ₹95 crore for building the memorial. The work would be executed by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) and completed by January 2019.

“Dr. Ambedkar worked not only for the emancipation of Dalits but also women. He had drafted the Hindu Code Bill, and when he faced opposition from his party, he had even resigned from the ministry. Earlier, he had worked relentlessly in drafting the Constitution, the foundation of which is laid on the four pillars of democracy,’’ Mr. Ananda Babu said.

Earlier, Mr. Ananda Babu garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar at Lodge Centre. District Collector Kona Sasidhar was present.

Inspector General of CID, P.V Sunil Kumar said the statue for Dr.Ambedkar is a fitting tribute to the icon of modern India, as he waged a lone crusade for the emancipation of Dalits at the cost of his family.

Chairman of AP SC, ST Commission Karem Sivaji, Chairman of AP Housing Corporation Varla Ramaiah, and former chief secretary Kaki Madhava Rao were present.
