An all-party committee protesting against the inclusion of several villages and vast tracts of agricultural fields in Krishna district in the green zone in Capital region warned of laying siege to the Chief Minister’s camp office in Vijayawada after February 29, if the State government did not reverse its decision.

Led by CPI (M) capital region branch convener Ch. Babu Rao and YSR Congress leader Jogi Ramesh, a large number of villagers staged a demonstration in front of the office of A.P Capital Region Development Authority (AP-CRDA) here on Monday demanding elimination of G. Konduru and Mylavaram mandals from the green zone.

On the occasion, Mr. Babu Rao said lakhs of acres of fertile land was being brought into green zone to benefit Singapore and Japanese companies.

CRDA Commissioner N. Srikant’s promise to organise awareness programmes to allay their apprehensions was not fulfilled, he observed.

Mr. Ramesh said Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao kept quiet as fields in his constituency were being devoured in the name of agricultural protection zone.
