Podila Prasad GMCANA Super-specialty Trauma Centre is all set for inauguration here on January 18. Governors of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Naidu E.S.L. Narasimhan and K. Rosaiah, and Minister Galla Aruna Kumari are expected to attend the opening of the new addition to Government General Hospital.
Chairman of Board of Trustees and past president of Guntur Medical College Association of North America (GMCANA) Uppuluri Venkata Subba Rao, major donor Podila Venkata Prasad took reporters on a guided tour to the hospital with a built up area of more than 1 lakh square feet. President of GMCANA Lokesh was also present.
The imposing four-floored structure overlooking the main road is a state-of-the art integrated modern medical facility that promises to provide the most advanced medical care to people from underprivileged sections of the society.
The foundation has been laid so strongly that it could support three more floors.
“We have been working on this project for many years and for the last six years, we put all our efforts in building this centre. The centre has been designed to provide integrated medical services with state-of-the-art facilities, the best in any teaching hospitals in the State,” said US-based urologist Subba Rao.
An example of this can be found in the designing of four modular operation theatres in a complex ensuring sterility and efficiency. The theatres have been built adjacent to each other providing optimal usage of space. Futuristic demands for organ transplantation have been kept in mind while designing the OTs.
Much of the ground floor of the building has been earmarked for trauma centre with a bed strength of 31. The first floor has a radiology centre, imaging centre and a dialysis centre. A burns care unit has also been built.
Dream come trueSays Podila Prasad, an alumni of GMC and a major donor, who has given away Rs. 5 crore to the building of the hospital, “I was reading local news papers writing about the pathetic state of affairs some years ago and I was shocked when I read that GMC may lose its recognition and I decided to do my best.”
Dr. Prasad through GMCANA could now see his dream being realised.
SouvenirMembers of GMCANA are also planning to bring out a souvenir to mark the inauguration.
