The AIYF activists burnt liquor bottles to register their protest against the 24-hour liquor shops. They created a mock liquor shop and put the names of Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana as its owners. They arrested the activists and removed the mock liquor shop. The Government was overtly dependent on revenues through excise to run the show.
Cheap liquor and belt shops were ruining the lives of poor. The revenues through liquor sale were more than Rs. 16,000 crore to the government. The corruption behind was manifold and would be more than Rs. 80,000 crore.
The public representatives, however, were silent on the corruption in liquor businesses, they alleged.
AIYF State president Navaneetam Sambasiva Rao, city president Kokkera Suresh and others were present.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (CPI) 56th division unit staged a dharna in Vambay Colony demanding the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to augment water supply, on Thursday.
