‘Advance Rs. 2,500-crore loan to JLGs’

Minister for Major Irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has set a target of advancing loans of Rs 2,500 crore to Joint Liability Groups (JLG) in Krishna district.

Addressing bankers at a meeting here on Tuesday, the Minister said that 80 per cent of the group members belong to the poor and weaker sections. He said that efforts should be made to constitute one lakh JLGs in the district this financial year. Bankers had deposits to the tune of Rs. 28,000 crore and at least ten per cent of it should be advanced to small income groups. He further said that Rs. 1,289 crore would be deposited into the accounts of the DWCRA workers between June 3 and 7. Interest to the tune of Rs. 3,000 would be deposited into each account during this period.

Talking about the development of the district, Collector Babu A. said that there was a possibility of increasing the revenue of the district to Rs. 31,000 crore.
