ACCI opposes continuing present power-sharing formula

The Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has demanded that the Central government pronounce a crystal clear policy on power sector in the wake of the division of the State.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, ACCI secretary Prasad R.K. Chukkapalli said there were reports that existing Discoms and power allocation to them would continue for another five years even after bifurcation. Residuary Andhra Pradesh would be at the receiving end if that proposal were to be implemented, he added.

The CPDCL and the NPDCL, which are located in Telangana, were allocated 2,000 mu power, which was more than what they required. The SPDCL and the EPDCL in Seemandhra were facing acute shortage of power due to meagre allocation of 2,000 mu. Power consumption recorded in the Andhra region cannot be considered as actual consumption, as there are power cuts and power holiday in the industrial sector. So, power sharing on the basis of existing demand is totally unjust and meaning less, he said.

As things stand now, the power generated in Seemandhra would also be shared by Telangana. The government was imposing power cuts here to light Hyderabad and Telangana region. Residuary Andhra Pradesh would have to power from Telangana if existing power sharing formula was followed.

So, the government, instead, should follow Chattisgarh model. The power generated in Chattisgarh was solely allocated to it after bifurcating it from Madhya Pradesh. Similar exercise should be done here, he said.

ACCI president Muthavarapu Muralikrishna, SPDCL retired SE Pattabhi Ramaiah, Potluri Bhaskar Rao were also present.
