Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has finally selected its candidates for the three Vijayawada Urban constituencies and the parliamentary seat. Businessman and social activist Harmohinder Singh Sahani will be the party’s candidate for the Lok Sabha.
While former chief engineer of Oil India P.S. Abdullah will represent Vijayawada (East) for the Assembly polls, hotelier and social activist Pothina Rama Rao will fight from Vijayawada (West) and software engineer K.R.G. Krishnamurthy will represent the party from Vijayawada (Central). The AAP has also chosen K. Vani Prasad for the Myalavaram Assembly seat.
According to Mr. P.S. Abdullah, candidates for other constituencies such as Tiruvuru, Avanigadda, Machilipatnam, Nandigama and Jaggayyapet are under consideration and will be declared shortly.
Giving a primary sketch of the party’s poll plank, Mr. Sahani said, “Our focus will be on providing basic amenities and will not talk big like construction of flyovers and creation of expressways, which other political parties have been doing. We will focus on issues affecting common man such as bus connectivity, public taps and drinking water for all.”
According to the AAP MP candidate, direct bus facility is lacking on many routes such as Satyanarayanapuram and Autonagar and lack of public taps or drinking water facility along the Krishna river bank.
He also spoke of taking on the various alleged Mafioso operating in the city. “The annual budget for drinking water of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is Rs. 23 crores, whereas the mineral water business in the city is about Rs. 800 crores. Similarly, there is big mafia operating on sand mining. Our election manifesto will be based on such common issues,” he said.
