A flop show, says CPI(M)

‘Chief Minister had no time for people with genuine grievances’

CPI(M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao on Friday said Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and local Congress leaders must apologise to the people of the district for reducing Indiramma Baata to ‘vaifalyaala baata’ (path of failures).

At a press conference in Vijayawada on Friday, the CPI (M) leader launched a scathing attack on Mr. Reddy, and said that ‘Indiramma Baata’ was an utter failure in Krishna district. He said the Chief Minister had come with mere “hollow” promises and when he found himself cornered by the questioning public, he “took to his heels.”

He took strong exception to the police wielding lathis on people who went in a peaceful way to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

Criticising what he called Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s lopsided priorities, Mr. Babu Rao said most of his time was spent in meeting the Youth Congress activists and a visit to a Ganesh Chaturthi pandal organised by a local party MLA while genuine victims in dire need of the government help were left high and dry.

He did not cater sufficient time to listen to the woes of the residents of slum localities such as Payakapuram, the Dwcra mahila group members, or thousands of workers in the Autonagar area who lost their livelihood after the factories they were working in shut down for want of power supply.

He said people of the city who eagerly awaited the Chief Minister’s visit in the hope of drawing his attention to their miseries felt cheated when Mr. Reddy abruptly ended his district tour and left for Hyderabad.

Raw deal

Alleging a raw deal to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, he said instead of initiating effective steps for release of funds that were due to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, it was ridiculous on the part of Mr. Reddy to claim that the corporation had been given more than its rightful share.

Mr. Babu Rao said the government had reduced the Indiramma Baata to a mockery with Mr. Reddy ‘re-inaugurating’ a water plant at Autonagar, roads in the One Town area and a Government Junior College at Radha Nagar yet again.

Party leaders Donepudi Kasinath and M. Ramaraju were present.
