When others were still planning how to make the day special for their mothers, members of the Amaravati Walkers and Runners’ Association (AWARA) had already gone full-throttle.

Sunday was International Mother’s Day, a significant day that brings the role of mothers to the centre stage. People find different ways to express their heart-felt wishes to the special person who not only brought them into this beautiful world but had been selflessly attending to all their needs.

Special offer

The AWARA members set the banks of River Krishna abuzz in the wee hours of the day. The day clearly belonged to mothers and grandmothers of all age groups. The offer thrown open by AWARA was tempting enough for a sizeable motley crowd of daughters, sisters, wives, mothers and grandmothers, among others, to emerge on the river bank, the hub of the association activities.

There were different activities for different categories. Children clearly experienced a mystical joy sprinting on sand, while their parents split into groups of walkers, joggers and runners. Most of the elderly participants opted for slow walk. Sridevi emerged as the fastest walking mother, Parthasarathy junior was the youngest to complete the 7K walk, Dr. Surendranath won the 8K run and grandmother Lonakshi, who flagged off the 5K walk, bagged a prize for being the eldest mother in the slow walk category.

To mark the occasion, the Angels Advance Clinic at Labbipet has announced concession for three days from Sunday in 14 branches of the clinic in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Company’s Managing Director and cosmetologist G. Radhika Reddy said women and girls could avail themselves of free consultation and 35% concession on all kinds of treatment.

TV artist Anitha Naidu, who graced the occasion, said women were giving tough competition to their male counterparts in all fields.
