The Election Commission on Monday announced the schedule of biennial elections to the Legislative Councils of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Bihar. The respective Chief Electoral Officers will issue the notifications on February 13, according to an official release.
The last date for filing of nominations is February 20. They will be scrutinised on February 21 and the last date for withdrawal is February 23. Polling will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 9 and the votes will be counted on March 15.
The elections in A.P. are for three graduates and two teachers constituencies necessitated by the expiry of term of the existing members: M.V.S. Sarma (Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam graduates constituency), Y. Srinivasulu Reddy (Prakasam- Nellore-Chittoor graduates constituency), M. Geyanand (Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool graduates constituency), V. Balasubrahmanyam (Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor teachers constituency) and B. Pullaiah (Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool teachers constituency). They are all due to retire on March 29.
Model Code of Conduct will come into force with immediate effect in the districts where the above constituencies exist.
