August 26, 2010 07:27 pm | Updated 07:27 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The irrigation authorities here lifted 47 of the 70 crest gates of the Prakasam Barrage to release surplus of 41,700 cusecs, here on Wednesday.

The flood at the barrage is a result of heavy discharge into the Krishna from tributaries and streams downstream Nagarjuna Sagar project.

The irrigation officials said that heavy inflows of 2.2 lakh cusecs were recorded into Srisailam reservoir from Jurala and Tungabhadra reservoirs. The authorities were regulating the flood discharge at Srisailam dam that was 87 per cent full and releasing only 44,500 cusecs.
