16,000 staff on poll duty to caste vote though postal ballots

The district administration has made arrangements for the officials on poll duty at the mandal level to cast their votes through postal ballots on May 2 . Nearly 16,000 officers and staff of various government departments will be voting through postal ballots at the facilitation centres set up in the mandal headquarters from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In total, 3,565 voters exercised their franchise through postal ballots including 1,667 in Vijayawada and 1,898 in Machilipatnam Lok Sabha constituencies on April 28 and 29, according to an official release.

The maximum number of voting for Vijayawada LS seat was recorded from the Vijayawada East segment (777), while the lowest (19 ) was recorded from Jaggaiahpet. For Machilipatnam LS seat, the highest voting (372) was registered from Avanigadda and the lowest (105) from Pedana.

For casting of votes through postal ballots on May 2, tight security arrangements have been made. The officers and staff have been asked to cast their votes only at the facilitation centres to avoid any problem, Joint Collector J. Murali said in a meeting on Wednesday.
