The Andhra Pradesh State Police Housing Corporation Limited is constructing 14 Left Wing Extremist (LWE) police stations in naxal-affected areas in the State, said Corporation Chairman Ravulapati Seetarama Rao.

“LWE police stations are attack-proof stations. AP Police Housing Corporation is utilising the services of experts in designing and constructing LWE stations,” said Mr. Rao. He reviewed the ongoing projects taken up by the corporation with the engineers concerned here recently. The corporation has taken up 16 LWE stations, of which two were completed in Guntur district. Fourteen are in different stages in Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Kadapa and Guntur districts.

The satisfaction rate in constructing police station buildings is 79 per cent and housing complexes (police personnel) is 40 per cent.

“The attack proof police station buildings are equipped with roof top sentry, sentry points, electrical fence, compound walls, one generator, rest rooms for Station House Officer, SIs and women staff, waiting halls, bell of arms and other facilities. Attack proof stations were being constructed at Addateegala, Rajavommangi, Donkarayi, Rampachodavaram and other Naxal-affected areas,” the Corporation Chairman said. Besides, PoliceTraining Colleges (PTCs) and District Training Centres (DTCs) are under proposal across the State. The Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), located in Vijayawada, would be upgraded into a full-fledged FSL and the AP Police Academy (APPA) in Hyderabad would be shifted to Anantapur soon, he said.

Staff quarters were being constructed at Kakinada, Palamaneru, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Pileru and other places, and proposals for new police stations are under consideration. “Priority is being given for Reception Centres at different police stations and DPOs. About 29 Reception Centres were sanctioned and works are under progress,” Mr. Rao said.
