Members of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Association, Tiruchi, staged a demonstration here on Tuesday expressing their opposition to the State government's proposal to shift the Anna Centenary Library to the DPI (Directorate of Public Instruction) campus at Chennai.

The demonstration held at Puthur four road junction was led by the Association's Tiruchi district secretary M. Saravanan. The Association's state vice president Nandalala, state deputy secretary K.Brahadeeswaran and members took part in the demonstration.

The Anna Centenary Library, the biggest in South Asia, serves as knowledge repository for Tamil development, the members said, adding that the library building would not suit requirements for a child speciality hospital. The members said if the State government was indeed keen on establishing such a hospital, it could do so elsewhere, and maintain the status quo of the swanky library.
